Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Watch Out For The Catfish! We thought we would try again since they are "under new management". I had a chili relleno and a tamale. Who taught these people to make a relleno?? It is not a pile of beans, a piece of chili With the cheese melted on it. The tamale was downright depressing. My husband got fish tacos. I warned him but you know, he did it anyway. The tacos (3) were made with Grilled Catfish. I think they fished it out of a retention pond down the street. Have you ever had Grilled Catfish? It is nasty! I am going to guess the other "fish" items on the menu also originate from the Whiskerfish in the pond. I was smart this time, and didn't order a margarita in a water glass!

Okay, there are certain things I like and getting a little to the side of drunk in mexican restaurants is most defiantly one of them. Its the cheap beer, what can I say... I stopped in here late one evening with a few friends after a long trip into Charleston and arriving to the convention center. I wanted to drink and I wanted to eat something so that I didn't had to regret wanting to drink. We walked over to Poblanos and were thrilled to find this place open. We got seated, were given menus and large beers. This was the end of the positive and fortunate experience. The food was questionable at best in my opinion. The salsa was a bit spicy, not bad, but the chips had the feeling/texture of having sat out all day waiting for us. The portions were not too generous and there was a lump mystery meat for what was suppose to be chile relleno. Seriously. It smelled questionable, I wasn't going to eat it and the friend that was, only managed a single bite. The beer was good. We had a few. We were also the only people left in the place I think. No big deal, except, we got a little tipsy and our conversation was odd at best. I looked over a some point and notices all of the servers in the restaurant lined up watching us. Not in an eager to refill my beer kind of way. They were commenting on our conversation and just watching us finish our dinner with a general amusement. I found this creepy to be frank. For my part, I would not recommend this place. However, also to their credit, they had decently clean bathrooms.

Salsa that came with the chips was pretty bad. Loved the steak tacos tho. The pico de gallo that came with it was excellent! Definitely going back again soon!

This restaurant was not so quick to take care of their guests. We walked in to no one being in the lobby. It took a few minutes for the host to acknowledge us. We got sat. It took ten minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We patiently feasted on great salsa with stale chips. We had a female and male server keep buzzing past us but no one acknowledged us. Finally, It was the manager who actually took our drink order as she did table visits. She didn't even apologize. We watched another table get their after us and get drinks and their orders taken. We decided to forgive and forget. The manager brought our drinks and told us a server would be right with us. After another five minutes, the male server I previously mentioned said he'd be with us. During this time, my fiancé pulled a used straw wrapper out of his drink he'd been drinking from while we waited. We talked about how to approach it. Still, we had no server. We left a ten dollar bill on the table to cover what we never had. The manager was at the front door with two other employees when we left. No one stopped us. No one even cared. We will not ever be back and will turn everyone who wants Hispanic food away with a quickness!

Whoever thinks this place is bad needs their head examined.. The servers are extremely nice, laid back, and very friendly. The food is amazing, the best place to go for Mexican food in Charleston. They have great prices too! We've gone there 2x in less than a week.. Consistant great food and they even remembered us!

I came pretty late at night about 9:45 PM, we were seated right away. The waitress is quick and friendly. The food was served really quick. For the price I paid for my food this place has good food. The portions were pretty big and the taste is not far off from other Mexican places I tried. You wouldn't find "gourmet" Mexican food here if there's such things. My overall experience was very satisfying, both food and service.

Horrible!!!!! Chicken over cooked and dry. Took forever to get service in an empty restaurant. Took two bites out if my food and it was Luke cardboard. I had the Pollo Ranchero...worst ever. Wife had poblano and something else that sucked. She could not eat it. Sent both back and the waiter would not take it off our bill. Had to move outside because they sat us at the tables in the bar area. 10 min after we sat down a cheesy karaoke guy set up his stuff and started blaring music. The family behind us asked the waiter if it could be turned down and laughed and to them to move.

I managed to talk my boyfriend out of our regular Mexican haunts so I could get my Yelp fix for the day (he's such a good boyfriend, always feeding my Yelp addiction). We arrived in the middle of the afternoon, starving and stressed because our UPS man hates us. Our waitress brought out one of their huge, overflowing chip baskets and life improved significantly. Their salsa was okay, it's spicier than I've had in some time. It wasn't spicy enough for me to be guzzling gallons of water, but it was a noticeable difference over other places in the area. I ordered the pollo poblano and was a bit overwhelmed when I received three plates of food, including one of those scary sizzling metal dishes. The sizzling dish had some delicious chicken and veggies on it and the other plates held tortillas, rice, beans, and a little guacamole salad. I don't remember exactly what my boyfriend ordered but it involved beef brisket that was surprisingly tender. We ended up with quite a bit of food for our money. Maybe I was just having an off day but I wasn't in love with this place. It probably didn't help that they were playing XM Caliente super loud. There wasn't anything wrong with our food or service...I can't really describe why I didn't like this place as much as Los Arcos or La Hacienda, I just didn't. If a friend wanted to meet up here, I wouldn't be opposed, but it's not my new favorite Mexican place in the area.

Came here on a Saturday late afternoon. I agree 100% with all of the other reviews on this place, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRRRRIBLEE. We were a party of 10 and they seated us in less than 3 minutes. They quickly brought us 3 baskets of FRESH tortilla chips and 3 sides of Salsa which I must admit was amazing and left us wanting more that's when the service issue began. We asked for some lime for our salsa at least 4 times and never got it. We also asked for more salsa about 4 or 5 times and they never brought it an extra plate never came water thank god I had something else to drink or I would of choked to death. They brought my daughter the wrong food and then they didnt split the bills correctly all in all they get one star because I left my phone at the table and they ran outside and gave it to me and the food wasn't the best but it was good and tasty maybe take out but will never dine in again

Where to even start...Tried this place 4 times, which ended up being 4 too many. The service is some of the most negligent that I have experienced anywhere, although to be fair it is starting to seem like a SC trait. At first glance inside this establishment, I liked the cheap decor and booth set up because many authentic Mexican restaurants are set up like this all over Southern California. That is where the niceties end. If you are greeted when you walk in, you get shown to a table and are lucky to get the waiter back before 20 minutes pass. The last time we visited, the place was devoid of other patrons yet we timed ANYONE coming by our table at 45 minutes and then we flagged someone over so that we could order! We only stayed because we were starving! And yet, I wish we hadn't. That meal gave me food poisoning and it tasted not great while trying to eat it. My husband ordered a burrito that was missing 3 items, making it seem like an entirely incorrect order, he ate about 1/3 of it which is odd for my bottomless pit of a husband! I had the shrimp fajitas which did not smell fresh (very fishy), and was greatly lacking in vegetables that pretty much make a fajita dish in the first place. I must have eaten about 4 shrimp (tiny shrimp by the way) before calling it quits and neither of us took home our food, which ended up being the smart choice as we ended up living I'm the bathroom for the next day and a half. Each time we visited we were drawn in by the idea of a military discount and a hope that the last visit was a fluke. But each time was consistent in neglect, poorly cooked food, and obvious lack in quality of said food. I am pretty sure that this establishment us owned by the other Mexican restaurants in the area (la hacienda on north goose creek blvd) as the menus are exactly the same down to the photos. Both are awful in the same ways. We have tried just about every Mexican joint in the general charleston area and this is one if the worst, but they are all pretty bad if I were to be fair and mention. I wish it was just a lesson in "you get what you pay for" but this restaurant is comparably priced to the other Mexican restaurants in the area, despite what another review said. I highly recommend learning to make your own Mexican food at home or make friends with someone who can do it for you :)

Salaso was okay but chips were stale tatsting but edible. Odered the chimachangas, one beef( which is described on the menu as shredded) and one chicken. The chincken was burnt to the point it was black and the shredded beef was ground beef with no spice or flavor. The chimichangas looked nothing like the pic on the menu. It looked so nasty I could not even eat it. The service was also horrible so I cannot reccomend anyone come here. Also, there was broken beer bottles all over the parking lot and a syring which I dont even want to know what that was used for.

Good thing I didn't read the reviews before going. I initially tried this place because we had a coupon. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely come back again. Food was fresh and good. Service was excellent.

The food is standard but the service is horrible.

Stopped in for a late lunch. I was pleasantly surprised with the service and the food because I had read the yelp. However, as a regular at the Clearwater location I figured that I knew what I was ordering and what to expect. The service was a little bit slow but other than that everything was on point for this establishment

Huge Modelo beer mugs (bigger than a yelp Elite's ego!) economically priced!. Fortunately I didn't get the slow service or bad food some yelpers have reported, I ordered fish and it wasn't great but it's something I'd order again, the plate came with a salad, rice, beans and your option of flour or corn tortillas, the bar area had a lot of action so it was somewhat loud, the salsa was ok, it's funny to read how people sometimes complain about it when they have salt and slices on their table for them to add to their taste, depending on the type of salsa I add salt, oregano or lime but I guess some people want the cook to guess exactly how every single person likes it. Service was relatively fast considering what I ordered, the location was clean and comfortable, food could use more complexity but it was decent, drinks alone make this locations a must in the area.

Waited what felt like an eternity to be seated. We ended up walking out and going to Los Reyes across the street. There was a cashier standing there and other staff walking by. They actually made eye contact with us but said nothing. I don't like being ignored so I have no plans on going back. Que lastima que tienen que tratar a la gente asi. One star=zero stars!

I went to this resturant totally blindly. I had not read Yelp. As I waited and waited, I opened Yelp. So many reviews about service and food. The young man waiting on me had been very nice. The chips were bland. The salsa tasted fresh and spicy. After 30 minutes of waiting, I finally got my long waited for dinner except it was the wrong dinner. It looked good except that creamy items make me completely and utterly sick. I just didn't have the time or stomach to wait on my food that I ordered. It was suppose to be a seafood combo using crab and shrimp in an enchilada, relano and it was supposed to be a tomato sauce. It came put as tilapia with a cream sauce. Other people's food really looked good. Too bad.

Stopped in for a late lunch. The service was great and the food came out quickly. The portions were large and tasty.

I loved this place. Its a more casual restaurant where they provide a menu with many pages of offerings. We all pretty much ordered all the basic stuff and were very happy. The two quesadillas were smaller but overstuffed with ingredients. My mom said the chimichangas were super small but tasty. Their were complimentary homemade fresh chips and homemade non-spicy salsa. We ordered some guacamole to be made fresh in front of us with ingredients added upon request including onions, corn, tomatoes, etc. My salad was great with iceberg lettuce shredded, mangos, tomatoes, guacamole, corn, cheese, and a tasty grilled chicken. They offered Paul Newman dressing but it was so yummy naked I didn't need the dressing. Next time I might consider the salsa instead. It's not the best Mexican ever but it was great in my book.

I found Poblanos to be a below average type of cookie cutter Mexican-esque restaurant. We were greeted at the front door promptly enough and sat at a nice table, but then had to wait quite some time for our waiter to show up. That set the pace for our entire experience, as our waiter was quite slow taking our order bringing our food out, and bringing us our check at the end. Quite honestly, the food was your typical ubiquitous cookie-cutter crappy "Mexican", that has started loosing popularity as of late, and with good reason. The entire experience was just kind of "meh". I probably won't be back.

Decent service. Below average food... not even a good margarita! The inside was shabby and smelled terrible. We wont be returning!
